Almost 7 years ago, the Casting for Recovery Nebraska Team connected with our friends at Cabela’s to explore the idea of supporting the CfR mission. As we say with all great partnerships, the rest is history. All these years and over $477,000 later, Bass Pro Shops & Cabela’s continue to provide the transformative support that enables CfR to host our life-affirming retreat program for 500-800 women around the nation each year. Presently, through the leadership of Johnny Morris, The Bass Pro Shops & Cabela’s Outdoor Fund ensures that 97 cents of every dollar raised from their customers through a round-up option at the register goes directly to conservation efforts; and it is through this fund that CfR helps women experience the healing power of nature. After a canceled retreat season in 2020, we were off and running in 2021, excited to return to fulfilling our mission and serving women who desperately needed connection after such an isolating time. The Outdoor Fund not only ensured that we could continue our programming, but it also provided beautiful CfR and Bass Pro Shops/Cabela’s branded bags for every woman who attended our retreats. Both the retreat staff and participants affirmed the benefit of the bags in their retreat experience. The women were able to keep all of their fly fishing equipment together and transportable, once they were issued it, which also meant that we were able to keep the equipment more sanitary in light of COVID implications.
