CfR Announces Plans to Postpone Retreat Kickoff
Based on Recommended Guidelines and Proactive Healthcare Measures

Bozeman, MT—March 12, 2020 —Casting for Recovery (CfR), a national nonprofit organization providing fly fishing retreats for women with breast cancer at no cost, has made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 retreat season kickoff scheduled for March 27th, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. CfR has always prioritized the safety of the breast cancer community. Many of our participants are in the high-risk population (over 60 and with underlying health issues or compromised immune systems) and many of our volunteers fall into those categories as well.  While the probability of actually getting infected is still considered “low” (as of today), the risk of a critical outcome amongst some of our attendees, if they are infected, is higher.

As of today, the five retreats scheduled through April 27th will be postponed or cancelled. The CfR national staff and Board of Trustees are working closely with volunteers to provide up-to-date communications to participants. CfR will make decisions about retreats after April 27th on a rolling basis.

“None of us make these decisions lightly. We are heartbroken that some women may not have another chance to come to a retreat” says Faye Nelson, CfR CEO.

Here at CfR, we know how much these retreats mean to the women we serve and hope to relaunch our retreat season as soon as safely possible.

Casting for Recovery® (CfR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1996 featuring a unique program that combines breast cancer education and peer support with the therapeutic sport of fly fishing. Their retreats offer opportunities for women to find inspiration, discover renewed energy for life and experience healing connections with other women and nature. CfR’s retreats are open to women with breast cancer of all ages, all stages of treatment or recovery, at no cost to the participants.
