Here’s to Strong Women

 In Blog

Here’s to strong women. May we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.

At Casting for Recovery we’ve been inspired for almost 25 years by the strength of so many women. CfR was founded by a group of brave women that saw the healing power that nature could provide to women with breast cancer. There are also amazing women that volunteer their time and talent. Then there are the more than 10,000 courageous women with breast cancer that have benefitted from our retreat program. All of these inspirational women are part of the CfR family and many of them are mothers. This Sunday we honor them.

The Casting for Recovery retreat program allows women with breast cancer a weekend away from the demands of their busy lives, giving them the opportunity to focus on themselves. Everything is provided at no cost, meals, lodging and equipment. The women will learn to fly fish, connect with others who “get it” and experience healing only Mother Nature can provide. They come in on Friday as strangers and leave on Sunday as family, it’s powerful! Some women are hooked and can’t wait for their next fishing adventure. Others may never fish again, but covet the memory of their day on the water, where their only thought was catching a fish.

“Casting for Recovery has meant so much to me as a friend and a mom.  It took several years after my retreat for me to have the confidence to get a rod and get out there on my own.  This spring I headed out with two other women who had attended a retreat to relearn and reconnect.  After that day of fishing, my family went to a farm with a pond.  I was able to show my son how to cast which was super fun and special.  The lucky kid caught the first fish ever on my new fly rod!  I am so grateful for Casting for Recovery for teaching me a peaceful activity that I can share with my children. I hope that over the years to come I can have many fishing adventures with them.” – Christina D., CfR Retreat Participant

Here’s to all the strong women we know and all those we’ve yet to meet! Happy Mother’s Day!
