CfR Gathers for 2023 Volunteer Summit
For the first time in 7 years, Casting for Recovery national staff, board members, and volunteers from across the country gathered for the 2023 Volunteer Summit in Salt Lake City. From Hawaii to Maine, over 130 dedicated volunteers traveled far and wide to learn new information, share ideas, and connect as one CfR. Sessions ranged from volunteer management to fly fishing best practices, wellness hot topics to fundraising. Additionally, Casting for Recovery proudly welcomed Sydney Whittington with REAL Consulting to share information around what a growth mindset looks like when it comes to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
After two full days, volunteers felt excited and inspired to return home and continue preparing for the upcoming retreat season. When asked about her favorite Summit session, Randi from New Jersey had a hard time choosing! “So….It truly is hard to pick a favorite! I absolutely had valuable takeaways from all sessions. I felt the questions/concerns I raised last year were represented and answered at the Summit.” Susan Gaetz, Program Director at CfR, shares her gratitude, “It was really meaningful for me to be in the same room with this many volunteers, many of whom I had never met! I loved being able to casually chat and laugh with them, while also discussing the needs of their unique programs. I saw so much camaraderie and support among volunteers of different programs which was incredibly inspiring. My summit experience reminded me of why our retreats are so special!”
The national team at Casting for Recovery would like to thank all volunteers for the work they put in each year in carrying out the mission we share to enhance the lives of women with breast cancer by connecting them to each other and nature through the therapeutic sport of fly fishing. A special thanks to the volunteers who attended and the sponsors who helped make it all possible:
