24 Foundation to support Casting for Recovery’s Indiana Program
Austin, TX—June 2, 2017—Casting for Recovery (CfR), a national nonprofit organization providing free fly fishing retreats for women with breast cancer, announces a $33,000 pledge from the 24 Foundation. Revenue generated at the 24 Indianapolis bike and walk event on June 23 – 24, 2017 will support Casting for Recovery’s breast cancer retreat programs serving women in Indiana. CfR’s Indiana program provides 2.5 day retreats combining medical education and psychosocial support with the therapeutic sport of fly fishing. The program is offered to Indiana women of any age and in any stage of treatment or recovery from breast cancer, at no cost to participants.
“There is an overwhelming need for survivorship programs like CfR which help women heal emotionally, physically and spiritually following their diagnosis. Support from the 24 Foundation will allow us to reach and serve more Indiana women,” said CfR Progam Manager Erika Michanowicz. “The CfR IN team runs one of our longest standing programs, so this expansion is particularly meaningful.” Funds from the 24 Foundation grant will be used to add a retreat program in Indiana exclusively catered toward women with metastatic (Stage IV) breast cancer, meeting the unique needs of women with advanced stage disease.
The 24 Indianapolis event will be held at Butler University, with a 3-mile loop running through the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood. The event hosts over 400 riders and 200 walkers, who will raise funds for the IU Health Simon Cancer Center, as well as other beneficiaries including Casting for Recovery. Registration for the event is still open and available at https://www.24foundation.org/register/
