Casting for Recovery Partners with Keep Fish Wet to Promote Conservation and Proper Fish Handling Practices

Casting for Recovery is excited to announce a new partnership with Keep Fish Wet, an organization dedicated to promoting best practices for fish handling to ensure the health and sustainability of fish populations. Through this collaboration, Keep Fish Wet has generously provided educational kits for all Casting for Recovery retreats, helping to educate participants on the principles of responsible fish handling and conservation.

Empowering Women and Protecting the Fish We Cherish

Each year, Casting for Recovery introduces over 800 women to the therapeutic benefits of fly fishing at retreats across the country. By incorporating the Keep Fish Wet principles into our retreat curriculum, we aim to inspire these women to become passionate stewards of our natural resources, ensuring that the sport they love remains sustainable for future generations.

“We are thrilled to partner with Keep Fish Wet to bring conservation education directly to our participants,” said Susan Gaetz, Executive Director of Casting for Recovery. “By teaching simple, effective fish handling practices, we empower our community to make a positive impact on our waterways and the fish we all love, aligning our mission with a commitment to preserving the environment.”

Insights from Keep Fish Wet

Sascha Clark Danylchuk, Executive Director of Keep Fish Wet, emphasized the simplicity and effectiveness of adopting best practices for fish handling: “No specialized gear is needed; it’s about adopting a fish-focused mindset and making small but meaningful changes in our approach through our three core principles: minimizing air exposure, eliminating contact with dry surfaces, and reducing handling time.”

Highlighting the value of the new collaboration, she added, ““Casting for Recovery is a powerful advocate for our mission, and we are truly excited to partner with CfR. Together, we have the opportunity to introduce more women to the joys of fly fishing and equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively protect our aquatic environments.
