The mission of Casting for Recovery (CfR) is to enhance the quality of life of women with breast cancer through a unique program that combines breast cancer education and peer support with the therapeutic sport of fly fishing.

Indian Creek Lodge

We are pleased to announce, we will be holding TWO retreats in 2018 and both will be at Indian Creek Lodge located in Douglas City. With the beautiful and tranquil Trinity River running through the property, the lodge is the perfect place for participants to find inspiration, discover renewed energy for life, and experience healing connections with other women and nature. CfR retreats are open to breast cancer survivors of all ages, in all stages of treatment and recovery, and are FREE to participants.

The two and half day retreat also provides medical and psychosocial  resources to help address quality of life issues after a breast cancer diagnosis, along with  a new outlet – fly fishing – as a reprieve from the everyday stresses and challenges of their cancer. Through evaluations, we know that 70% of participants had never attended a cancer support group. The retreat gives them a chance to experience the benefits of talking with other cancer survivors and learn from each other’s experiences throughout their cancer journey. After attending the group discussion, one participant wrote, “I didn’t know what I was missing.”

When asked in the evaluation, What did you enjoy most about the retreat? One participant wrote, “Fishing. Laughing. Talking. The fellowship of sharing a meal. Hearing new stories and new interpretations of old stories. Feeling validated. Feeling safe. Being outdoors. Seeing wildlife. Free time. Sleeping.” #66 Roger & Christine

And another added, “This event has changed me forever and I will be eternally grateful for the education and connections I made.

If you are a breast cancer survivor, apply today! Or, if you know a breast cancer survivor, no matter her age or stage of treatment or recovery, please encourage her to visit our site and learn more about the program. This is a weekend that just may change her life.
