CFR Indiana

Since 2005, CFR-Indiana has successfully delivered eleven retreats to 154 Indiana breast cancer survivors from all walks of life. Retreats are held at the beautiful Wooded Glen Retreat and Conference Center located on 567 scenic acres in Henryville, IN. Two lakes are stocked with bass, catfish, and bluegill for catch-and-release fishing. Wooded Glen offers a peaceful setting to relax, and provides their guests with homemade recipes served buffet style at each meal.

Consider the words of Michelle, a 2010 Indiana participant: “This weekend used the beautiful art of fly fishing, combined with counseling and medical expertise, to bring each participant one step further in her road to recovery. It was truly a tapestry of grace, love, compassion, respite, and healing.... A huge thank-you goes out to the hundreds of volunteers who make this retreat possible. An even bigger thanks goes out to the men and women who contributed financially in order to make this specific weekend possible. Thank you so much!”

Six annual CFR-Indiana alumni reunions have also been held in various locations to reinforce and support connections made at the retreats. 20 alumni attended the 2012 reunion.

April 20 – Komen Race for the Cure Central Indiana, Military Park, Downtown Indianapolis.  For more information, click here.

CFR Indiana will be holding a silent auction at the New Castle Motorsports Park, 5816 South County 125 West, New Castle, IN on Friday, May 3, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM in conjunction with the Route 66 Sprint Series race registration. Kandi Rutledge, 2005 CFR Indiana alumnus, will be chairing this event. CFR Indiana alumni are being asked to provide donated items; e.g., racing/sports memorabilia; autographed hats/shirts; automotive items/tools; camping gear (coolers, lawn chairs, etc.); craft items; gift cards for chain restaurants, gas, movies, bowling, hotels, etc. All items should be delivered to Kandi no later than Tuesday, April 16. CFR Indiana volunteers are needed on Friday, May 3, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM to man tables and collect money for the items bid on. The 3rd Annual CFR Indiana Silent Auction will be held at the Moon Dog Tavern, 4825 E. 96^th Street, Indianapolis, IN on Friday, July 26, from 6:00 to 10:00 PM. Deb Hire, 2006 CFR Indiana alumnus, will once again be hosting this event. Silent auction items could be handcrafted items, gifted items that you won’t be able to use or need, or solicited items. Nothing is too small as we will be putting gift baskets together. All items along with donation forms should be turned in to Deb by Monday, July 8.  CFR Indiana volunteers will be needed the day of the event to set up for the silent auction at 4:00 PM, man the tables, collect the purchased items, and help with check out once the silent auction is closed at 10:00 PM. CFR Pink Day will be held at the Indiana State Fair on Monday, August 5, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. 18-22 volunteers will be needed to assist the children visiting the Department of Natural Resources pond in baiting their hooks, casting, and removing fish from their hooks. Volunteers will receive a free ticket to the fair and a pink t-shirt to wear that day. Spouses of CFR alumni/staff are also invited to attend and serve as volunteers. News

CFR staff/alumni staffed this year’s booth at the Indiana on the Fly event held on January 5 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Thank you to Anita Rush-Taylor, Deb Hire, Carmen Moore, Teresa Mosier, Penny Myers, Cindy Day, Kandi Rutledge, and Kim Hine for helping to staff the booth. We raised $129 at this event.

Tanya Brizendine, owner of the Totally New You Hair & Nails salon in Greenwood, IN, sold pink hair/feather extensions during the month of October to raise money for CFR Indiana in memory of her good friend, Mary Garrette, a May 2009 CFR participant. Tanya raised $109 for CFR Indiana.
