CFR Arizona
Casting for Recovery (CFR) is a national, non-profit support and educational program for women who have or have had breast cancer. Women whose lives have been profoundly affected by the disease gather in a beautiful, natural setting to learn fly fishing, “a sport for life." This retreat is open at no cost to Arizona women of all ages and in all stages of breast cancer treatment and recovery. The weekend includes fly-fishing, counseling, and educational services to promote mental and physical healing and provides an avenue for social support and group interactions.
Participants learn the fundamentals of fly-fishing, but most importantly, they spend time on the water practicing catch-and-release fishing. Counseling and medical information is available throughout the weekend, including group sessions. Trained facilitators staff the retreat, including psychosocial and health care professionals, and fly-fishing instructors.
The state fly-casting clubs along with businesspersons and numerous members of the community have provided monetary and volunteer support for the program. “To Fish is to Hope” is the CFR motto and this wealth of community support gives that hope to each participant.

There is no doubt that "Bikers" love to ride for a good benefit. The 2011 Bikers for Boobies Run, benefitting CFR-Arizona, drew one of the largest crowds for a one-day event in Arizona with 480 registered riders. Missy Hughes with Two Gals Event Planning, along with Shelley Marten Rollen and a host of other volunteers (including CFR-Arizona past participants and staff) put together a highly successful, 52-card shuffle, 5-stop poker run raising over $11,000. The last stop was the Dirty Dogg in Scottsdale who is well known for hosting huge biker events. Lots of music, raffles, beverages, visiting with friends ... and the best part is that all turned out for a common caused that affects so many: breast cancer. The 2012 Bikers for Boobies will be even bigger. A custom motorcycle is being built and will tour with the final auction being held at next year's event. Bikers LOVE to ride for a good benefit.
Presentation by Kitty Wiemelt and Lisa Schrader to the Desert Fly Caster’s Club. After the presentation, Don Morgan, came up with a CFR Hat and said he would leave it at the CFR booth and whatever anyone could give, DFC would match it up to $750. We took in $1,700+ dollars that evening (including the match). Arizona Fly Fishing has had similar events and always supports CFR-AZ enthusiastically.
