CFR East Tennessee

The CFR-East Tennessee program has just celebrated its 7th annual retreat, having served 14 women touched by breast cancer who live in Tennessee. Every year passionate volunteers and river helpers staff each retreat, sharing their hearts and love of fly-fishing, helping each woman to forget about her illness and giving her hope for the future . . . “to fish is to hope.”

Breast Cancer Survivors "Cast for Recovery"

Beginning in 2007, the East Tennessee retreat has been held at The Lodge at Buckberry Creek in Gatlinburg, TN. Owners Jeanie Johnson and Buddy McLean have a special spot in their heart for Casting for Recovery and ensure the weekend is absolutely perfect for the women attending each retreat with the help of their wonderful, attentive lodge staff.

Through the generosity of Earl and Margit Worsham, the day of fishing takes place on private water at the Estates of Norton Creek. Mr. Worsham restored Norton Creek, reintroduced brook trout, and implemented a program to protect both the brook trout and rainbow trout, turning Norton Creek into a world-class fly-fishing stream.

The East Tennessee program is supported by our local fly-shops and fly-fishing organizations, local businesses, veteran and union organizations, national corporations, and other non-profits. It is only with their help that we are able to provide our annual wellness weekend to breast cancer survivors across Tennessee at no cost to participants.

To get a glimpse at one of the East Tennessee retreats, we invite you to thumb through one of our photobooks.
