How to Establish a CFR Program in Your Area
Thank you for your interest in bringing the Casting for Recovery (CFR) program to your area. We support your desire to serve breast cancer survivors in your community. Nationwide, teams of volunteers have dedicated themselves to establishing and sustaining this program in their communities, providing an annual retreat and ongoing support to the alumni. They have made a difference in the lives of those touched by the program.
CFR’s mission is to provide fly-fishing retreats specifically tailored for women who have or have had breast cancer. We seek to enhance the lives of breast cancer survivors by providing retreats designed to promote and support mental and physical healing. We are committed to socioeconomic and cultural diversity.
The retreat consists of a 2½ day program, offered at no cost to the participants, that incorporates both fly-fishing instruction and social support activities. The weekend is a retreat for women to “get away from it all” and to spend time in a beautiful, peaceful setting. Women trained specifically for the CFR program lead each retreat. Staffing the retreat are two healthcare professionals, such as a psychotherapist and an oncology nurse, and four fly-fishing instructors.
Establishing a CFR program in your area means working closely with CFR’s Home Office to develop and train a team of volunteers to organize, promote, raise funds for, and implement an annual retreat and on-going alumni activities for area breast cancer survivors. It takes one year to one-and-a-half years of planning to fully implement a successful and sustainable program.
